Miles Mossop Chapters Stellenbosch Sauvignon Blanc 2024

R330,00

This wine displays a brilliant pale straw colour. Intense aromas of quince, passionfruit, grapefruit and fresh herbs emanate from the glass. This is underpinned by hints of fresh brioche and vanilla. The palate is full and rich on entry with flavours of quince jelly and grapefruit with a pithy citrus texture. The mid-palate is creamy and round with notes of toasted almonds leading to a crisp dry finish and a salinity which leaves one wanting more.

In the cellar

This is a 100% Sauvignon blanc from a single 35-year-old bush vine vineyard in the Stellenbosch region growing on decomposed shale soils. The grapes were harvested at around 23 brix, picked into small grape crates and placed in a cold store overnight. The grapes were whole bunch pressed the next day and the juice settled overnight before being taken to 400L old French oak barrels for fermentation. The fermentation is allowed to start naturally and once completed the wine is topped and matured sur-lie for 10 months with regular lees stirring.

About the Wine Estate

Miles Mossop's winemaking philosophy is simple; source grapes from exceptional vineyards, pick them at the correct time and help guide them through the natural process of winemaking to produce expressive, individual wines of the highest quality, wines that he enjoy to drink. Miles Mossop Wines was established in 2004 with the vision to create wines unique in character, expressing the true nature of South Africa and the sites from which the grapes are sourced. It is a family business with Miles Mossop as winemaker and viticulturist. Individual vineyards are sourced from all over the Western Cape of South Africa with their potential to produce unique and exceptional wines specifically for the various wine styles and blends which we produce in mind. Production is limited to 80 tons in total which results in 1800 cases of white, 2200 cases of red and a limited amount of dessert wine being produced. We aim to achieve wines with finesse and elegance but still showing aspects of power and fruit concentration, having great texture while maintaining balance. These are truly handcrafted wines showing pure fruit expression and, more importantly, a sense of place.
