Award Winning
Deux Freres Klein Graniet Tribute 2019
R425,00
A beautiful deep ruby red colour with a mixture of dark berries, cocoa and cigar box on the nose. The wine is almost deceptively soft at mouth entry but then explodes with wonderfully balanced fruit and acidity. A long lingering finish with a soft well-integrated tannin structure brings this wine to its crescendo.

In the cellar
The grapes for this blend were all hand-harvested with utmost care. It was destalked and then cold soaked for 48-72 hours depending on varietal and ripeness. During fermentation, a combination of punch-downs and pump-overs are done at 4-hour intervals for the extraction of colour, flavour and tannin. After the wines were pressed, they went into selected French 225l French oak barrels for ageing for 18-24 months (depending on varietal) before blending
and bottling.

About the Wine Estate
Deux Frères was founded in 2008, when brothers Retief and Stephan du Toit decided to continue the heritage as a “wine family” left to them by their mother and stepfather, Hester and Marc Wiehe. They bequeathed us the foundation on which Deux Frères is built. It is the philosophy of Deux Frères that nature and geography, or the terroir, make the wine. This process culminates in the cellar where a policy of minimum intervention is followed. It is in the light of this that Stephan rather describes himself more as a traditional vigneron, driven by taste and intuition, than a modern winemaker with all the exactness that that entail.
When you taste a Deux Frères wine you can taste the sun and the soil. It is an expression of our love for our small piece of heaven.
It is our philosophy at Deux Frères that nature and geography, or the terroir, make the wine. It is up to us to unlock this gift in an environmentally responsible way. The majority of the estate is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon that forms the base of our flagship wine, “Tribute”. It is supported by Petit Verdot, Malbec and newly grafted Cabernet Franc. With the availability of three different clones, a 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is produced as a single vineyard wine in limited quantity. This wine forms part of the Simonsberg tradition of Cabernet Sauvignon of unique and superior quality. A unique block of 14 rows of Mourvèdre growing in unusual sandy soils, shows the great diversity of the land. The wine from this block also forms part of our single vineyard range.
The portfolio is completed with a block of 37 year old Sauvignon Blanc vines, situated on a north-westerly aspect that yields wines that are poised between freshness and a more traditional Stellenbosch-style.
