The intent of Capensis Silene Chardonnay is to highlight the nuances and profound flavour profile that can be found in the Stellenbosch winegrowing region. A blend of our estate Fijnbosch vineyard and neighbouring mountain vineyards, the 2025 Silene offers alluring citrus notes of lemon peel, grapefruit and subtle notes of nectarine on the back palate, refined by a hint of cream. Ample grip and intensity all supports the mouthfeel of the wine, finished by cherished acidity.

In the vineyard
Winter conditions in 2024 were excellent and were marked by above average cold units, higher than normal rainfall as well as frequent snow in high lying areas. Budding occurred around 7 to 14 days later than usual but was consistently good and even. Cool and moderate weather conditions during harvest slowed down ripening and gave the vines an opportunity to develop beautiful flavours and concentration.

Capensis is a family of three wines dedicated exclusively to Chardonnay. The name Capensis is taken from the Latin word meaning “from the Cape,” and pays homage to their home in South Africa, one of the oldest winemaking regions in the world. The ancient soils, dramatic landscapes and historic vineyards of Stellenbosch, Overberg and Robertson are the foundation for Capensis, which honors the greatness of South Africa. Winemaker Graham Weerts has carefully selected the finest Chardonnay vineyards within the Western Cape to create these expressive wines.
