The Bein Merlot is a Merlot in classic Pomerol style, elegant and complex. It is the flagship, the optimal synthesis from the wines of the various batches. It reflects best the integrated terroir of the cool southern slope and strives for perfect balance between primary fruit and sweet-spicy barrel flavours.

In the cellar
Our Merlot is generally complemented with a splash of one of the other classic Bordeaux varieties, often Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet franc, but also Malbec or Petit Verdot, depending on the vintage, to enhance complexity. This Merlot is matured for one year in small 225L oak barrels, of which between 35% and 70% are new, made up of top-quality, tight-grained French oak. After bottling, we allow the wine to mature another year in the bottle before release. It can be enjoyed young, but will reward the connoisseur over many years.with beautiful maturation flavours.
In the vineyard
Compared to the previous vintage, the vines started better into the new season. Although the total amount of winter rains was still below the long-term average, it was sufficient and the dams are at least two-thirds full at the start of the growing season. Also during spring, the weather conditions were favorable, which contributed to a somewhat earlier, but even budding and eventually a good canopy development.
During the summer, temperatures were generally moderate, and even during the midsummer ripening period we had not registered any of the otherwise characteristic hot days. These are good conditions for optimal fruit development.
Accordingly, the 2020 harvest began a little earlier than other years and brought about very healthy grapes of top quality.
Ageing
This wine drinks well now, however, will age well for 10 years from date of vintage if stored in the correct conditions.

95% Merlot & 5% Petit Verdot
Food Pairing
Serve at 18ºC, open an hour before or decant. Best enjoyed with a hearty meal such as roast venison or a juicy pasta dish. Also delicious with fine cheese and bread.
