Le Grand Domaine Grand Vin de Stellenbosch Sauvignon Blanc 2024

R195,00

An expressive Sauvignon Blanc with a light straw colour. This modern Stellenbosch Sauvignon Blanc bursts with complexity. Perfumed aromatics of sweet melon fruit and gooseberry with subtle hints of capsicum. An array of citrus fruit flavours is complimented by nuances of green figs. The palate is textured with a smooth natural acidity, leaving a lingering finish.

In the cellar

The grapes are handpicked in bins during cool early mornings. Three-hour skin contact for optimum fruit extraction, still obtaining the natural acidity. Lower juice recovery at the press for extracting the finest essence of the grape. After the juice settled clear for two days, we inoculate with a selected yeast strain. Fermentation in stainless steel tanks at 12°C-15°C. After fermentation, the wine is kept on the lees as long as possible and with regular stirring it enhances the mouthfeel.

In the vineyard

One selected block on the foothills of the magnificent Helderberg, produces fruit with multiple layers. The block was planted in 2007 on Oakleaf soils in a North-East direction. The block’s highest point in altitude is 316m. A distinct difference in the fruit profile is noticed as you move from the lower to the highest point in altitude. Selected parcel within this one block was identified to capture the true essence of Stellenbosch Sauvignon Blanc. Refreshing cool sea breezes from the afternoon brings relieve on a hot summer day. Grapes were picked on the 13th of February 2024 at 23°B.

About the Wine Estate

Le Grand Domaine is situated at the top of beautiful Devon Valley, overlooking the majestic Stellenbosch mountains. Devon Valley is one of Stellenbosch’s best-kept secrets, both scenically and viticulturally. Vines have flourished here since the 18th century and it has an enviable reputation, not only for the red wines that are made here, but also as a source of premium grapes. The Devon Valley was demarcated in 1997, within the Stellenbosch Wine of Origin. The valley is open to the south and demarcated by low hills on the other sides.
