Saxenburg Private Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2024

R152,00

The Private Collection represents the cornerstones of Saxenburg. A perfect expression of terroir, and uncompromising consistency in both elegance and value. An exceptionally rewarding discovery.

The Saxenburg Private Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2024 has floral aromas of elderflower and pear blossoms that greet the senses, accompanied by tropical notes of passion fruit, ripe figs and guava which knit the bouquet together. Subtle undertones of spicy peach and a refreshing saline minerality, influenced by the cool sea breezes, add depth and intrigue. On the palate, a silky texture coats the palate and a lively acidity imparts a satisfying length to the wine.

The 2024 vintage can be described as a crop that was small but of high quality. The bunches and resulting berries were small, which gave great concentration to the resulting wines. A small percentage of oak was used in this wine with the addition of 2% Semillon to add to the mid-palate.

In the cellar

The grapes were all picked at cool temperatures early in the morning and received between 4 – 6 hours of skin contact, before being pressed and settled. The majority was cold fermented with selected yeast strains in stainless steel tanks, while a small portion (5%) was fermented naturally in older oak barrels and 2% Semillon was used for texture on the palate. After 3 months of lees contact and lees stirring, the wine was blended and prepared for bottling.

In the vineyard

The grapes were sourced from various vineyard parcels on Saxenburg, ranging in elevation from 175m to 260m above sea level. These parcels are picked and treated individually in both the vineyard and cellar. Some components contribute to the more tropical fruit spectrum, while others bring more minerality and greener notes.

About the Wine Estate

When Adrian and Birgit Bührer took ownership of Saxenburg in 1989, the farm, and South Africa as a nation, was in dire need of rejuvenation. Thanks to their grit and unflappable perseverance, they tenaciously stuck to their vision. They traded their familiar surroundings of Switzerland for a homestead in the Cape Winelands. Fiona and Vincent are the second-generation Bührer Family custodians of Saxenburg Wine Estate with the mission to showcase our incredible terroir in the Polkadraai Hills and to create special Saxenburg moments with people from all walks of life.
