Meerlust Rubicon 2023

R650,00

The drought, coupled with the un-seasonal rain in late spring and during harvest has yielded a slightly lighter bodied, more elegant Rubicon in 2018, but the quality that stands out in this vintage is the purity and definition of the fruit. The character of the fruit profile straddles the fresh red berry fruit and the riper dark cassis fruited notes as well, yielding a wine of considerable verve and vivacity. The tannic structure is currently taught yet dense with high quality, just ripe almost powdery tannin’s.

Very youthful colour, deep and dense with almost purple hue. Quintessential Rubicon nose with violets, ripe plum, cedar wood, fennel, and intense spiciness. Typical liquorice notes also evident on the nose. Still young and intense, the palate is full bodied, structured but packed with fresh dark fruit and rounded tannins and seamlessly integrated oak
