Journey’s End Cape Doctor

Journey’s End Cape Doctor

R425,00

This wine exhibits fruits on the darker side of the spectrum with cassis and rich fruitcake on the nose accompanied by cinnamon spice and dark chocolate from generous oak aging. Concentrated dark berries are complimented by a creamy texture with soft elegant tannins delivering a beautiful long-lasting finish. Despite the current appeal, there is enough underlying power for a long future ahead

More Information

In the cellar

The grapes from each block were picked and treated separately utilizing both stainless steel tanks as well as 5000L truncated open top casks. Each varietal underwent a 4-day pre-fermentation cold soak before fermentation was initiated. After fermentation, only the Cabernet Sauvignon was subjected to a two-week post fermentation maceration to ensure a solid tannic structure before the wine was subjected to a 22-month barrel aging period. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot components are matured in 100% new French oak with the other varietals being matured in second fill French oak. The selected barrels were then blended before being filtered and bottled. This wine is vegan friendly.

In the vineyard

The grapes come from five blocks on the farm resting on south facings slopes between 180m and 215m above sea level. Our 7Km proximity to the ocean guarantees fresh natural acidity and mineral salinity. The vineyard blocks are protected from the powerful Cape Doctor wind by a eucalyptus forest.

Cultivar

55.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 28% Merlot, 5.5% Malbec, 5.5% Cabernet Franc, 5.5% Petit Verdot

About the Wine Estate

In 1995 the Gabb family, originally from Shropshire, UK, fell in love with this picturesque wine farm, restoring it to what it is today, now surrounded by 40 hectares of beautiful vineyards. We are incredibly fortunate to be nestled amongst the Schapenberg hills, beneath which lay 350 million year old decomposed granite soils. This creates one of the most prestigious terroirs in South Africa, and is where our vines are planted. As well as fantastic views, our vineyards benefit from the cooling and cleansing south-easterly wind, known locally as the ‘Cape Doctor’, which comes in from nearby False Bay and the Atlantic Ocea
