More Information

In the cellar

The winery’s focus is on Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage and Merlot which have been crushed at Grangehurst since 1992. Other varietals – Shiraz and Petit Verdot – are now also produced and used in various blends. There was not enough maiden vintage (1992) Grangehurst Pinotage to fill their stainless-steel tank – so, they decided to fill the tank with Cabernet Sauvignon. So started the Grangehurst “recipe” of blending between 8 and 14% Cabernet Sauvignon with their Pinotage. The Cabernet provides an interesting dimension of fruit, tannin and additional acidity – which contribute to the complexity and balance of Grangehurst Pinotage.

In the vineyard

The bush vines from which the grapes are harvested is a vineyard planted in sandy loam soils and harvested by hand.

Ageing

Recommended drinking 6 to 15 years from vintage.

Cultivar

89% Pinotage; 11% Cabernet Sauvignon

Food Pairing

Enjoy this wine with fine cuisine such as seared tuna, tagliatelle carbonara, bobotie or springbok pie.

About the Wine Estate

Grangehurst is a boutique red wine cellar on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain in Stellenbosch, South Africa. It is a family business that began in 1992 and specialises in the production of handcrafted red wines and a dry rosé, all made using traditional and sustainable winemaking practices. They harvest approximately 80 tons of red wine grape varieties and produce around 60 000 bottles per vintage. Their hands-on approach, years of experience, and uncompromising attention to detail ensure that only the highest quality wines are bottled under the Grangehurst label. Grangehurst's winemaker Jeremy Walker has crafted his wines from Grangehurst since 1992. Jeremy sources the finest grapes from the Stellenbosch region, and strives for every vintage to be made the age old way – using methods that are handcrafted, traditional, and unhurried.
