In the cellar
The grapes were sorted three times before proceeding to stainless steel tanks and transported, without pumping, into the fermentation vessels. A combination of old-style wine making techniques with modern technology takes care of creating our unique hand crafted wine. Fermented at 24-26.5ËšC for 11 to 16 days. 18 months in 300 and 500 liter French oak barrels, 15% first fill and the remainder in older barrels.
In the vineyard
The grapes were picked by hand into lug boxes weighing roughly 17kg each.
Ageing
This wine can be enjoyed now; however, it can be aged for up to 15 years if stored in the correct conditions.
Cultivar
96% Syrah, 3% Mourvedre, 1% Viognier
Food Pairing
The elegance of the wine makes it super versatile with food pairing; however red meats, duck, ostrich fillet and venison stand out. Also, at its very best with a warm fire and good company.
About the Wine Estate
The Farm- Kleinood, where Tamboerskloof wines are hand made. In the year 2000 the small farm, that was to become Kleinood, was very different from what it is now. Although its inherent natural beauty and charm was always there, it was, sadly, just a run down and neglected little fruit farm in a beautiful valley against a backdrop of majestic mountains and a river running through it. But it stole Gerard and Libby de Villiers’s hearts and they decided to give it their best. In good time they established vineyards and an olive grove, then built the winery and started producing wine and then olive oil and finally, in 2008, moved in to where our hearts and passion lay. Over time it has become a personal and highly individual project where no effort was spared in striving to produce a thing of excellence and beauty underpinned with a simple and holistic philosophy dedicated to explore, develop and use the full potential of the farm and human skills in order to produce the best Kleinood is capable of.
