Raats Family Wines: The Fountain Terroir Specific Chenin Blanc 2022
“What our industry has been lacking in the past is telling the story. I have travelled endless amounts all over the world to tell the story about what makes South Africa, through Raats Family Wines, through Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Blanc, what makes us unique.” – Bruwer Raats
A benchmark Chenin Blanc selected from a dedicated old vineyard in Polkadraai Hills, Stellenbosch. The wine tells the story of the unique terroir of the Polkadraai Hills’ decomposed dolomite granite soil. Raats selected a small portion of the block identified as consistently the best to craft one barrel for the CWG Auction. The Fountain Terroir Specific Chenin Blanc was the first wine Bruwer released for the CWG Auction, and he continues this tradition. The wine reflects Bruwer’s lifelong passion and focus for Chenin. The multiple award-winning The Fountain Terroir Specific Chenin Blanc 2017. This wine received a 5-Star Platter each vintage from inception (2017 – 2020) and has just been nominated again for a 5-Star by John Platter. Total Production 156 Bottles
Tasting Notes: The aromatics are opulent, showing quince, yellow apple and mandarin orange, with ginger spice adding dimension alongside intensity.

Neil Ellis Wines Amper Bo Tempranillo 2017
“What I enjoy most about winemaking is you get dealt the cards, and you don’t really know what you are going to get – it’s all up to nature. So you can either have a great year or a not-so-great year, but it’s what you make of it.” – Warren Ellis
Tempranillo is old and believed by many to be the wine depicted in the Bacchus mural that serves as proof of wine in ancient Spain, linking Tempranillo to the Phoenician settling of the Iberian Peninsula as far back as 1100 B.C. Although it is a medium-bodied wine, it has incredible tannins which give it its incredible ability to age. Historically, this was the first single varietal Tempranillo to have been sold on the auction.
Tasting Notes: A subtle nose reflecting dark and red cherries, violets, herbs, and tobacco leading into a leathery finish. The palate is dense and complex, packed with dark berries and plum which unfold with great length, freshness and balance, followed by fine, dry, yet smooth tannins.
14.74 vol% | Optimal drinking now, and for the next 15 years. | RS: 3.1 g/l
“I like to keep this winery focused on the vineyards, on the quality of the grapes and the winemaking process. It’s very much a family affair, it’s myself, my wife and two children, and then only one or two key staff members.” – David Finlayson
Matured for 48 months in oak. Made from Upper Blaauwklippen Valley grapes.
Tasting Notes: Deep black colour with a crimson edge. Notes of black truffle, lead pencil shavings and cassis carry to the ripe, firm tannins on the palate. A wine that will mature for many years.
