Winshaw Family Vineyards Bill Winshaw 2017

R340,00

Pleasure in abundance. Super smooth, silky blend of cab franc (67%) with a seasoning of malbec, cab, merlot. The wine matured for 24 months in 225 and 300L barrels, around a 1/3 new. There’s an assured modernity to an otherwise traditional wine. On the nose is cab franc’s dark, leafy fragrance, hint of tobacco and new leather, before crushed blackberries, plums and winter spice. The 14.5% alcohol is keenly balanced and gives the palate a certain vinosity and freshness. Velvety tannins are offset by a superb, dry finish.

Awards and Recognition

'67% cab franc with malbec, cab, merlot in fine 2017. Leafy fragrance with dark fruit & tobacco overtone. Herbal twist on expressive, graceful palate (despite 14.5% alcohol); balanced tannins & good dry finish. Both reds should mature well - this more approachable now.' – Platter's Guide, 4.5* (93/100)

'It’s the Bill Winshaw 2017 that stands out. Consisting of 67% Cabernet Franc, 18% Malbec, 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Merlot, it was matured for 24 months in 225- and 300-litre barrels, 37% new. The nose shows red and black berries, cigar box and pencil shavings while the palate has a dense core of fruit, bright acidity and fine tannins, the finish long and particularly dry. It’s a harmonious, elegant offering.' – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za, 93/100
