Clos Malverne Ellie MCC 2020

This wine was whole bunch pressed, with the only skin contact being the time in the press to ensure a very delicate pink colour. 15% of the base wine was fermented in barrel. The second fermentation was done in bottle, and the wine spent 2 years on the lees in bottle.

Mediterranean - summers are warm and dry, although sea breezes from the nearby False Bay cool the vineyards in the afternoons and evenings. The winters are wet and cold with a high average rainfall. Devon Valley, Stellenbosch. Our single block Shiraz vineyard is low lying on the cool valley floor. These cooler temperatures are specifically good for producing fruit driven rosਠgrapes – perfect for what we want on this MCC.

This wine should be drank now to really appreciate the fruitiness, however, it can be aged for a further 2 years if stored in the correct conditions.

This wine pairs well with seafood and light dishes.

Seymour Pritchard bought the 10-hectare farm, Malvern Heights, in 1969 from Colonel JW Billingham, who had named the farm after the rolling hills around Malvern in his native England. When winemaking came into Seymour’s sights in the mid-1980’s, France was still the epicentre of the wine universe. He then added some “French Flair” to the name and changed it to Clos Malverne, due to the homestead on the farm being reminiscent of a Clos in France.
