In the cellar

The grapes are fermented slowly and coolly with specially selected yeasts that bring out the pure fruit in the wine. No malolactic fermentation is used and of course the wine is not aged in wood.

In the vineyard

The deep red colored soils in combination with the cool maritime climate are ideal for expressing all facets of the chardonnay.

Ageing

Early drinking style, at its best within two years from vintage date.

Chardonnay

Food Pairing

Serve at 12-14°C with fresh oysters, creamy pasta with crustaceans and shellfish or poached crayfish. Also delicious with a salad with goat cheese or grilled chicken. And of course delicious on its own, as an aperitif or just like that.

About the Wine Estate

Simonsig Wine Estate is synonymous with the history of the South African wine industry, the Stellenbosch wine region, and the Malan family name. These elements are intertwined in this family-owned farm, where the late Frans Malan produced the first bottle of our much-loved Kaapse Vonkel, South Africaʼs first Méthode Cap Classique made in the classic bottle-fermented style. He is also honoured for co-founding the thriving Stellenbosch Wine Route, a first in its time. Today, his legacy lives on through his sons, Francois and Johan, and grandchildren Christelle and Michael, the 2nd and 3rd Malan generations at Simonsig Wine Estate.
