The 4 best barrels in the cellar of Groenland were selected for this Cabernet Sauvignon (50%) and Merlot (50%) blend. Full-bodied, fruity wine with black pepper, nut and berry aromas on the nose. The tannins are well structured and in perfect harmony.

In the cellar

Hand-selected quality grapes are harvested at full ripeness (25˚B). The crushed grapes are inoculated with pure yeast and fermented dry at 26 - 28 ˚C in open top cement fermenters receiving four to six pump overs daily for one week. The grapes are then pressed and after malolactic fermentation, aged for 12 months in 100% new French oak barrels.

In the vineyard

Growing conditions were warm and dry resulting in excellent quality grapes.

Ageing

This wine was made to enjoy now, however, it can age for a further 10 - 15 years if stored in the ideal conditions.

Best served with Oxtail and roast beef.

About the Wine Estate

The Steenkamp family are the fourth generation owners of Groenland and have established a reputation for producing outstanding red and white wines in the fertile Bottelary area near Stellenbosch. Complex varietal wines such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Merlot and a special blend, Antoinette Marie, have placed the estate in the forefront of superior red wine production. Maturation takes place in American and French oak barrels.
