Ruby, pale and clear as befits the variety. Fruit shows in the perfume and favours, raspberries and blueberries, lightly spice-dusted. The extra notes tantalise, glacé cherries, even a hint of crystallised violets. A classic version, there’s purity and focus, nothing overworked, just enough barrel oaking for a savoury seam to add interest, but still allowing the fruit to shine. The elegant palate is sleekly curvaceous, juicy, ultra-smooth and sensuous. With this much flavour encased in an elegant body, a special food combination is called for, like best quality rare beef.

In the vineyard
A distinctive style which comes from the vineyard: initial impression of blueberries, quite intense, almost buchu-like seam, but in a good way. Has the variety’s trademark elegance, fresh plushness and polish, but offers its own interpretation of Pinot Noir. Heaps of flavour, the palate shows layers of raspberries, even cassis, and the body is silky, the oaking masterful: 12 months older barrels, adding spice but not interfering with the fruit profile.
Ageing
Ready to be enjoyed now, however, it can be aged for a further 10 years from vintage if stored in the correct conditions.
