Simonsig Tiara – Case of Mixed Vintages. 1999, 2002, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017

Simonsig Tiara – Case of Mixed Vintages. 1999, 2002, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017

R2300,00

This case offers you a bottle of each vintage of the Simonsig Tiara. This is the flagship red wine of Simonsig and reflects the best quality the vintage has delivered. The first Tiara was made in 1990 and upon release in 1992 it was an instant hit being chosen by the Wine of the Month Club as Wine of the year. The 1997 was the first vintage that had Petit Verdot included in the blend. This Bordeaux-style red blend exhibits a deep, garnet centre, with bright hues on the rim. The rich, perfumed blackcurrant and cassis is enhanced by layers of lead pencil shavings and subtle cedar oak nuances. With more aeration, the wine shows red cherry and mulberry fruit, fine-grained tannins and a beautiful balance. A remarkable collection for any wine enthusiast.

More Information

In the cellar

17 Months oaking. 100% French Oak. New Wood 51%, 2nd fill 25%, other 24%.

In the vineyard

The selected blocks were picked from mid-March to end of March. The healthy vineyards delivered grapes with beautiful layers of fruit.

Ageing

The Tiara has the body and structure to improve with cellaring. Due to the elegance and fruit intensity it is also delicious to drink now. Our recommendation would be to drink the older vintages soon and allow the younger vintages to settle and mature.

Cultivar

Cabernet Sauvignon 68% | Merlot 24% | Petit Verdot 4% | Cabernet Franc 4% (each vintage differs slightly)

Food Pairing

Pairs well with braised pork belly, Chalmar beef rump and mushroom ravioli.

About the Wine Estate

Simonsig Wine Estate is synonymous with the history of the South African wine industry, the Stellenbosch wine region, and the Malan family name. These elements are intertwined in this family-owned farm, where the late Frans Malan produced the first bottle of our much-loved Kaapse Vonkel, South Africaʼs first Méthode Cap Classique made in the classic bottle-fermented style. He is also honoured for co-founding the thriving Stellenbosch Wine Route, a first in its time. Today, his legacy lives on through his sons, Francois and Johan, and grandchildren Christelle and Michael, the 2nd and 3rd Malan generations at Simonsig Wine Estate.
