Overgaauw Three Decades Tria Corda . Case of 2×1987, 2×1995 and 2×2006

Overgaauw Three Decades Tria Corda . Case of 2×1987, 2×1995 and 2×2006

R5800,00

Overgaauw Wine Estate in Stellenbosch was an early champion of a Bordeaux-style blend. In 1979 a Cabernet Sauvignon/Merlot/Cinsaut blend named Tria Corda was launched and then in 1982 a more classic approach was taken by replacing the Cinsaut with Cabernet Franc. These three classic Bordeaux varietals have remained the components ever since. Tria Corda is a Latin translation for three hearts and refer to these three varietals forming the heart of the Overgaauw Wine Estate’s unique terroir. In this case you will receive two bottles of each vintage from each decade. A special selection from the winemaker himself.

More Information

In the cellar

Matured for 18 months in French oak, 60% new. The nose is super-complex: red and black berries, violets, herbs, undergrowth and vanilla while the palate is particularly harmonious – very flavourful, the tannins starting to mellow in pleasing fashion. This Tria Corda is a full-bodied Bordeaux-style blend of Merlot (51%), Cabernet Sauvignon (35%) and Cabernet Franc (14%). Its seductively perfumed nose offers generous layers of cassis, raspberry, cedar and a touch of spice. The nose follows through onto a silky, well-balanced palate that delivers fine tannins and a long, concentrated finish – the perfect foil for the wine’s brilliant fruit. Note about past vintages: A combination of first and second-fill oak was used until 1994, followed by 100% new wood until 2004. Since then, Overgaauw have returned to the combination of new and second fill to allow the wine to express its unique terroir origins.

About the Wine Estate

Everything Overgaauw is true to their roots. Heritage is not just a concept; it is a soil, roots and fruit reality lived out daily on our century-old estate. The first Van Velden to make wine at Overgaauw was Abraham, who founded the farm in 1905 and built his wine cellar four years later. He laid a foundation far bigger than a wine business – his would be a legacy of pioneering spirit, respect for the land and a passion for excellence. It was a vision so full of heart that it passed as naturally as DNA from one Van Velden generation to the next, with the result that over 100 years later, Overgaauw can make the extraordinary claim of being a fourth-generation family wine farm. Having planted and bottled the first Merlot in South Africa in 1982, this is a must visit wine farm.
